A unique opportunity emerged for the European opera admirers to listen to the most famous opera pieces performed by Russian soloists engaged by the most known concert halls and theatres of the world: on the 3rd of August the World Stars Opera Gala took place in the concert hall Salle des Princes Grimaldi Forum. This was a rare piece of luck as the performers’ schedules are packed full years ahead. No wonder the audience greeted the world’s best performers with a huge round of applause.
Maria Guleghina – one of the most famous singers of the world, soprano, performing on the world’s leading venues – Lla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Wigmore Hall, Suntory Hall and others, - Honoured Artist of Republics of North Ossetia and Alania, prize winner of multiple international contests.
Veronika Dzhioeva – a brilliant singer, soloist at Bolshoy and Mariinsky theatres, prize winner of multiple international contests, who collaborates successfully with Italian theatres including Teatro Petruzzelli (Bari) and Teatro Comunale (Bologna).
Vladimir Galouzine – Honoured artist of Russia, one of the world’s leading dramatic tenors, who due to his prominent talent performs the most complicated poles in productions upon the most famous opera and concert stages of the world, such as Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San-Francisco Opera Theatre, Covent Garden, Mariinsky theatre, La Scala, La Felice and others; prize winner of multiple international contests. Has been repeatedly named “tenor of the year” by the opera expert community.
Alexey Markov – leading soloist of Mariinsky theatre, prize winner of multiple international contests, who has performed on leading theatre stages of Europe – Deutsche Oper, Carnegie hall, Suntory hall and lots of others; has been collaborating with the Metropolitan Opera since 2007; according to expert opinion possesses a “profound baritone of true Russian singing school”.
Dmytro Popov – a young tenor, prize winner of multiple international contests, who has successfully debuted on leading European theatre stages of Covent Garden, Deutsche Oper, Bavarian State Opera and lots of others, and rapidly gains international renown as a brilliant young opera performer.
Ekaterina Sergeeva – an enchanting mezzo-soprano, prize winner of international contests, soloist at the Academy of young singers of Mariinsky theatre, guest soloist of Bolshoy theatre, who tours around Europe, USA and Japan.
In the concert program were the most popular pieces of Russian classics and of the world’s opera treasury: from Tchaikovsky to Verdi, accompanied by the Philharmonic orchestra of Nice. The Neapolitan songs performed by Dmytro Popov and Alexey Markov were the perfect addition to the famous arias from world renowned operas: “Ruslan and Lyudmila”, “Tosca”, “Carmen”, “Iolanta” and others – performed by Maria Guleghina, Vladimir Galouzine, Veronika Dzhioeva, Ekaterina Sergeeva. Duos by the leading soloists of the world anticipated the emotional apex of the evening – performance of the famous Brindisi from La Traviata. No wonder the audience wouldn’t let the soloists go off the stage for a long time, demanding for the wonderful evening to go on. Russian opera at the French Riviera will be remembered by the highest level of performing art combined with emotional profoundness pertaining particularly to the Russian opera tradition.
